We undertake both dry and wet shipping works. Under dry shipping work, the firm undertakes disputes concerning contracts of affreightment, cargo claims, claims under marine insurance policies, arrest of ships, and judicial sales. Judicial review of administrative decisions is one of the biggest areas of litigation at the moment as the number of businesses requiring licenses, permits, environmental clearances, and “no-objection certificates” (NOCs) is growing with the booming economy. The litigation team is expert in the field and provides advice and represents clients in disputes arising out of administrative rules, regulations, standards, guidelines, and by-laws of different departments of the State. It is a one-stop solution center for any business requiring advice and support in relation to compliance with government rules and regulations and obtaining required permits, licenses, etc. With vast experience of representing clients in administrative tribunals, such as the VAT/Customs Tribunal, we ensure that the client’s interests are protected throughout the process. Our services include challenging the imposition of fines, seizure, and confiscation of goods, classification of the H.S. Code of imported goods, cancellation of the rebate, bond license, etc., before statutory tribunals and superior courts. The firm has successfully represented and actively participated in VAT and/or Customs matters under the writ jurisdiction of ACI Limited, RPM Motors, and Transcom Limited. Likewise, we have successfully represented the Bangladesh Technical Education Board in a significant service matter that hinged upon the Rules of Business and the powers of the Ministry of Education. We have been involved in many proceedings for the enforcement of fundamental rights, including the rights to life and liberty, equality and equal protection of the law, safeguards on arrest, fair trial, freedom of expression, association, movement and religion, and the right to property. For example, employees in service matters against Bangladesh Rural Development Board and BASIC Bank Limited.

The firm deals with selective instructions/briefs of criminal cases mostly concerning bail from the higher court under section 498 of the Code of Criminal Procedure and quashment of criminal proceedings under section 561A of the Code of Criminal Procedure. The firm has successfully obtained bail for renowned personnel such as Mahfuz Anam and Mohammad Mohsin (CIP) in the past. Mr. Hossain has personally worked in obtaining bail for former prime ministers back in 2011. The firm regularly appears as counsel for several criminal cases of ACI Limited and Saad Musa Group for dishonor of cheques under section 138 of the Negotiable Instrument Act.
